Overcoming Covid19

Any stressful situation can be managed in a step by step manner. There is the usual 4 'A' s rule. The 4'A's being, Avoid, Alter, Adapt and Accept.
If you can avoid a stressful situation well and good. Avoid people or places that make you uncomfortable or stressful.
Or can you alter the situation you are in? If possible do it. Some adjustments in behaviour or thinking can sometimes decrease the stress.
Certain situations are dealt with adapting to it. For example, you are in another country away from home and loved ones, but you adapt to the situation thinking about the larger picture or greater benefits.
But there are certain situations, that are not at all in your control. There is only one option available for you, that is to accept it as it is. Covid19 pandemic is such a situation. Now,
if the situation is beyond your control, should you panic? No, there is no need to panic. Consider the following reasons,
i.  Panic doesn't make things better. You can't avoid the situation, you can't alter it. Panic may reduce your coping abilities.
ii.  The virus is being elaborately studied by scientists all over the world, and their findings  and suggestions are being followed by various authorities and governments. You just need to stick to the guidelines by the authorities in your area. Trust me, that's the best thing to be done in this situation.
iii. Though the virus is highly contagious, it is not as deadly as many other viruses, as far as the mortality rate is considered.
iv. Rely only on the authorised or reliable channels for news and updates. You really don't need to memorise all the statistics. Also restrict the time of exposure to the pandemic news to a particular time window.

As we all know, this pandemic is definitely going to have an impact in many areas. We are going into an altered world..  Some may be facing salary cuts or job or business losses. But, remember that we are all in it together. We are sailing in separate boats, negotiating the storm in different ways, but all are there in the ocean. It's going to be an altered world in the end.
New order, new opportunities, new life, new normal. Yes, a new world, not necessarily a bad one. Opportunities might pop up in unexpected areas. Like masks and sanitizers thrive in these times..Also atleast some of us are doing what we are currently doing, without much choice, just moving in a flow. May be it's time to think something new.
Now as you have time and locked down at home, you can think about what can be done in the job front. Give yourself some time to find out a worthy occupation. Think elaborately about what can be done considering your skills, knowledge and aptitude.
Once you have an idea, do extensive research and groundwork. Talk to experts in the field. Try to upgrade your skills via online courses or tutorials. And when time is ripe, take the plunge.

Evenif you can't think of anything substantial it is okay. But it is important to keep yourself ready for the post COVId world. The following are to be followed to stay fit, physically and emotionally.
1. Stick to a routine.
Sticking to a routine gives you some control over yourself, your day, your life.
2. Physical exercise
We all know that physical exercise is beneficial and important to our health. Also it helps to be in shape and boost our self-confidence. Exercise release endorphins or 'happy hormones' in the body that gives the feel good feeling.
3. Eat healthy
Eat healthy nutritious food. Drink plenty of water.
4. Relaxation exercises
Deep breaths, meditation, Mindfulness.
Or you can download guided relaxation audios like JPMR.
5. Social interactions
Talk to friends and loved ones. Expand your network. Stay connected with like minded people. Networking can be useful later.
6. Find time for hobbies, or interests.
Music, dance, movies, painting, gardening, healthy cooking, craft etc .May be a hobby or passion can earn you a living.
7. Keep your humour sense intact.
Try to take things a little lightly. Remember, laughter is the best medicine for wellness.
8. Be grateful
Be grateful for what you have. Remember we need only very little to live. This lockdown atleast reminded you that. Count your blessings.
9. Forgive.
Easier said than done. But, forgive that politician who messed up the preparedness, forgive the person whose carelessness caused a wide spread. It takes away the heaviness from your mind.
In short, keep a healthy mind and body, keep hope and an optimistic outlook. Stay safe adhering to all the necessary precautions. Then the battle is half won.

Ageing

Ageing   Age is just a number, they say... But no no no , it is not just that... Age is the changes upon you around you and inside you.. Age is more silver locks, wringles on the forehead,  crow's feet at the edges  of the mouth and the eyes.. Age is the sagging skin,  loose muscles and aching limbs .. Age is missing connections in networks, neural as well as social ... Age is frequent visits to the doc and more tests and scans.. Age is more pills and supplements  to negotiate turbulent hornones.. But beyond everything, age is when the little bird  that had so far nestled within, who with her chirpy songs made your eyes sparkle  and made you dream... Who with her subtle flutters often made you blush and took your breath away.. Age is when she flies away taking  exuberance of youth along, leaving a few feathers behind, for you to reminisce  the glory of the past, to remind you that there are unfinished projects  and dreams to ...

New Zealand Spring

Spring in Newzealand  New Zealand Spring They say one would be sniffed by the sniffer dogs  for myriad prohibited stuff, on arrival at New Zealand.. Measures to protect and preserve  the pure and fragile ecosystem of the southern island nation.. But late into the the night  there were only cordial smiles of hearty welcome!! And out in the open  abundant fresh air  wraps you all around. .. The whole of earth is  carpeted green, albeit uneven.. Spread all over the lush greenery  sheep, cows and horses  feast and have their fill.. Wild flowers, mostly yellow, are thrown lavishly all over... Roses and peonies  as big as lotuses red, pink and white  sway in the wind... Coming out of the brooks, pebbles shine in the sun... Mountains stand tall,  still donning the snow cap... Loose feathers from those caps  scatter to form white clouds  floating in the sky... The blue sky, like a narcissist,  stand admiring...

Introspection

Introspection, mindfulness in psychological jargon, is important for mental health.. That is to look into oneself, being aware of one's own thoughts,  When you analyse your thoughts you may encounter a stranger. But, owning up is the key. Own up the stranger, the flawed  and crumbled being that you are. But do forgive.. Ability to forgive is one of the fundamental virtues one should possess. Sometimes it's hard to get a grip on oneself, with all the turbulence inside.. With myriad concoctions of emotions  that are produced in every passing moment, one is bound to spill some here and there, even being aware of the consequences.. That's why forgiving oneself is an essential skill to master the art of worthy living. Preetha Raj
