All we imagine as light
Payal Kapadia explores the other side of Mumbai, where individuals , especially migrants, feel loneliness and gradually lose themselves in the crowd. They work, they commute, they live in practical dwellings and in spite of the feelings of loneliness be there in the thick of mass celebrations. The paradox of the spirit of Mumbai is explained in the form of faceless comments from such workers. 'Kaam hai, paisa hai, phir kyom chodum Mumbai?'
( Job is there, money is there, then why leave Mumbai)
That's what keeps them there.
Parvati who faces eviction from her home to make space for a high rise, decides to go back to her sea side village leaving Mumbai. “Class is a privilege reserved for the privileged,” is the tagline on a hoarding erected by the builders who are about to demolish her home. All she could do was to throw some stones at it.
Prabha, who needed a closure to the uncertainty of her marital situation and Anu, who is unable to decide what she wants , share a house. Both struggle to find their ways in the mist of confusion spread over their internal world.
As they accompany Parvati to help her settle down in her village, the mist starts to clear. Eventually Prabha finds closure to her situation and Anu knows what she wants.
All the actors did extremely well.. Kani Kusruthi as Prabha, the head nurse who fears loneliness and lacks courage to come out of a namesake marriage was fabulous . Altogether All we Imagine as light is a good watch.
